FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ohio (WTVN)--With the holiday season here, and packages being delivered to homes across central Ohio, local police departments and Sheriff's offices are working together to stop "porch pirates" from stealing holiday cheer.

Whitehall Police Chief Mike Crispen, who is also President of the Franklin County Chiefs Association, says package thieves are being targeted during the month of December, and recipients can also take extra steps to prevent theft.

Crispen says packages ordered through Amazon can also be delivered to their hub counter, or a secure locker service can be used. Other similar security options are also available through other carriers.

He also suggests you have packages delivered to your workplace, if your employer allows it.

Other suggestions include installing cameras that notify you when someone approaches your home, and even requiring a signature for delivery, especially for items more valuable.
