COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--The two leaders of the Columbus Police Department participated in a swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday.

CPD Chief Elaine Bryant and Assistant Chief Lashanna Potts book took their oath of office, after completing their training through the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy.

The training was required for them to become peace officers in Ohio, and they had been taking classes since July of 2021.

Both Bryant and Potts come to Columbus from the city of Detroit. Mayor Andrew Ginther says their accomplishments symbolize what is possible and what is right, with two black women leading the department for the 1st time in the city's history.
