COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--Columbus City Council has approved the plan to fund additional safety measures at nearly two-dozen parks across the city, for the summer.
With the signature from Mayor Andrew Ginther, the plan will take effect this weekend, and last through Labor Day.
The plan will allocate $500,000 for temporary cameras at nearly two-dozen city park. Another $2-million will fund overtime for police patrols on weekends.
Councilman Emmanuel Remy, who chairs the Public Safety Committee, says they are not releasing the locations of the cameras, for tactical reasons.
Fraternal Order of Police President Jeff Simpson signed a memorandum of understanding, saying officers could work the overtime assignments.
With the uptick in violence in the warmer weather in Columbus has been recent shootings at city parks.
