Walter "Ted" Carter Named New OSU President

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--On the same day classes started for the fall semester, the Board of Trustees at The Ohio State University has named a new President.

Following their meeting on Tuesday, Walter "Ted" Carter was named the school's next leader. He officially starts January 1st.

Carter's career spans not only administration, but military duty. He graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1981, graduated from the prestigious "Top Gun" flight school, and rose to the rank of Vice Admiral in the Navy. An avid hockey player, Carter's call sign was "Slapshot".

Carter also served as Superintendent of the US Naval Academy. He retired from the military in 2019, and has been serving as President of the University of Nebraska system since 2020.

Carter replaces Kristina Johnson, who resigned late last year.
